Fans of Outlander, the ever-popular time-travelling Starz saga, are abuzz with anticipation as the second half of season seven is due to launch in November.

There’s a hot new theory making the rounds, stoking curiosity among enthusiasts regarding a potentially huge revelation about a character’s hidden past.

Season seven took a break over a year ago. The plot left Jamie (characterised by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (brought to life by Caitriona Balfe) on a journey headed for Scotland.

On a parallel thread, Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin) and Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) were tested with agonising sorrow when their son Jemmy (Blake Johnston-Miller) was taken hostage by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton).

Roger and his ancestor Buck (Diarmaid Murtagh) initiated an urgent pursuit to the stones at Craig na Dun, unfortunately discovering only the absence of Rob and Jemmy, save for Jemmy’s abandoned scarf.

With fear gripping the Frasers, they suspected that Rob could have committed blood sacrifice to manage time travel.

The narrative of the seventh season will continue with the Fraser tribe’s intensified efforts to reclaim Jemmy, with the possibility of Rob playing a much bigger part than anyone could have foreseen.

An enthusiast on Reddit recently proposed a theory that might disclose Rob’s enigmatic tie to Jamie’s Aunt Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy), giving context to his desperate attempts to keep Jemmy alive.

The Reddit user offered this hypothesis, “I’m convinced that Rob Cameron is either a time traveller himself from Hector Cameron’s lineage or a far-off descendant of Hector Cameron or one of Hector’s kin.”

Though Hector does not physically make an appearance in the series, his backstory is incredibly significant to the Fraser family. He was the pioneer of the North Carolina plantation, River Run, along with his wife, Jocasta.

Though his aunt later wed Duncan Innes (Alastair Findlay), this theory’s validity would mean that Rob is related distantly to the Frasers.

Expecting Rob’s intentions, the post further hypothesised, “He kidnaps Jemmy due to (1) Jemmy’s knowledge of the cave’s location containing the Cameron portion of the Jacobite gold and (2) the fact that returning Jemmy to the 1700s grants Rob the custodian of Riverrun.

“Eager to witness if they pursue their journey to America and’ve a chance encounter with Claire and Jamie. Alternatively, they could remain in Glasgow till Claire and Jamie arrive, leading to an interaction there.”

Nonetheless, it’s not quite confirmed that he’ll secure the gold, as numerous fans predict a dramatic end for Rob in the forthcoming episodes.

“I guess he’ll meet an intense end – like being caught in the ‘in between’. A theory I gathered from book discussions in the Outlander subreddit,” a fan retorted.

Another fan responded, “It’s a fate I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemies, let alone Rob Cameron. But it’s all speculation, now we play the waiting game.”

Outlander season 7, part 2 is scheduled to go live on November 22, exclusively on Starz.
