A lighthearted comedy show centred around familial hilarity and misunderstandings has commenced shooting in multiple locations across Scotland. The comedic father-son relation between characters Richard and Ken promises a charming and funny take on neighbourly disputes, domestic life, and generational differences.

Entitled “Only Child,” the series hails from BBC Comedy and BBC Scotland and is produced by Happy Tramp North. The cast is led by Gregor Fisher and Greg McHugh as the main father and son duo. McHugh brings to life the character Richard, a singleton and aspiring actor, who returns to his Scottish family home to take care of his stubborn, ageing father Ken, portrayed by Fisher.

The production process is currently happening during the warm season in Glasgow and araes in North-East Scotland. This humorous tale that is “Only Child,” is cleverly crafted by Bryce Hart for BBC One and iPlayer.

Richard’s delayed visit to his recently made a widower father Ken led him to the realization that his old man might need more assistance in his daily life, something Ken would vehemently deny, as stubborn as he is.

Ken, an obstinate technophobe set in his ways, leaves Richard with a growing concern about his father’s ageing.

In addition to Fisher and McHugh, “Only Child” exhibits a set of talented Scottish and Irish actors, including Amy Lennox, Stuart Bowman, Forbes Masson, Clare Barrett, Robin Laing, and Paul Rattray.

Greg McHugh shared: “Had you told my younger self, freshly graduated from drama school, that I’d be starring in a father-son comedy with my industry idol Gregor Fisher, I wouldn’t have believed you.” Continuing, he expresses his excitement for the project, crediting Bryce Hart for crafting a wonderful show that promises both laughter and touching moments.

Gregor Fisher was equally thrilled, saying: “I am delighted to be working with young McHugh on ‘Only Child’ for the beloved BBC.”

“Only Child” is produced by Happy Tramp North for BBC One, BBC Scotland, and iPlayer. Al Campbell (Inside No. 9, Code 404) will be steering the director’s helm, and Ursula Haworth (Inside No. 9, Brassic) serves as the producer. Happy Tramp North’s Neil Webster is the show’s Executive Producer.

The series was given the green light by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy, along with Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning at BBC Scotland. Both Gregor Sharp and Gavin Smith serve as the BBC Commissioning Editors. “Only Child”‘s development was supported by Screen Scotland.
